Japan’s Tsunami Recovery

Small clusters of survivors, bundled up against a chilly wind, gathered along Japan’s northeast coast Wednesday to remember the nearly 19,000 lives lost in the March 11, 2011, tsunami. Four years later, the region is still struggling to recover.

Friday marks the 10th anniversary of one of the deadliest natural disasters in world history: a tsunami, triggered by a massive 9.1 earthquake off the Indonesian coast, leaving more than 230,000 people dead in 14 countries and causing about $10 billion in damage.
